Tribute to My Mother, Marjorie Arnason

My mother, Marjorie Arnason, was ahead of her time and a trailblazer who paved the way for others. She was a dedicated partner to my father, the Mayor of Gimli, Manitoba, and together they shared a deep passion for their beloved town. They worked tirelessly to ensure that the world recognized Gimli as a special place.

Here I am with my mother, Marjorie, who always believed in me and gave me the strength to rise after every fall. As a mother of three daughters, she was constantly busy sewing dresses and instilling good manners in us. Yet, she was also a warrior woman, taking on significant projects and always seeing them through to success.

Marjorie taught us not only about beauty but also how to create something beautiful out of practically nothing. Her dedication to our father and the community was unparalleled, going far beyond what most people would commit. Though she is no longer with us, she remains one of the most important people in my life, and her legacy of strength, creativity, and unwavering support continues to inspire me every day.

Tribute to Elder Mae Louise Campbell

Elder Mae Louise Campbell has been a guiding mentor in my life for 30 years. Her wisdom and example have shown me that following one’s path is not just about walking a paved road but understanding that every road offers opportunities for learning and growth. Elder Mae taught me the importance of allowing my children to make their own choices and be responsible for them. She also helped me realize that not all life moments that don’t turn out as expected are my fault or because of my actions; some burdens are not mine to carry.

The most profound lesson I’ve learned from Elder Mae is the power of listening. She emphasized that you learn far more from listening than from speaking. To this day, I am grateful to the Great Spirit for having Elder Mae Louise Campbell in my life.

Tribute to Marion Cumming

We all have a role to play in protecting our forests and oceans. Marion Cumming,  was another influential figure in my life. Marion taught me how to live my life guided by the principle of  ONE FAMILY  and LOVE (Love Our Valued Environment and Resources). Her dedication to environmental conservation and her passion for nature have inspired me to be more mindful and proactive in preserving our planet’s natural beauty. Marion’s influence continues to shape my actions and commitment to the environment, reminding me that every small effort counts in our collective responsibility to protect our world.
